The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language ability. It is used around the world to describe learners’ language skills. The CEFR has six levels – from A1 for the most basic beginner to C2 for the very highest level of ability.

Our English language exams are listed below according to the CEFR level they are aimed at.

• CEFR Level B1- B1 Preliminary, formerly known as Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. A B1 Preliminary qualification shows that you have mastered the basics of English and now have practical language skills for everyday use. This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between A2 Key and B2 First.

• CEFR Level B2- B2 First, formerly known as Cambridge English: First (FCE), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is our most popular exam, accepted by thousands of businesses and educational institutions worldwide. A B2 First qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study on courses taught in English. This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between B1 Preliminary and C1 Advanced.

• CEFR Level C1- C1 Advanced, formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is the in-depth, high-level qualification that shows you have the language skills that employers and universities are looking for.More than 9,000 educational institutions, businesses and government departments around the world accept C1 Advanced as proof of high-level achievement in learning English. Preparing for C1 Advanced helps learners develop the skills to make the most of studying, working and living in English-speaking countries.This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between B2 First and C2 Proficiency.
